"I have been a committee member of The Sunshine Foundation for over 9 years. I believe in what the charity stands for and enjoy the feeling of satisfaction gained from all the hard work that the members commit to. Every child in our school (SASSE) deserves the right to a full education and to be taught skills to help them become as independent as possible. This is why I am pleased that we help to fund various projects, for example we previously funded the cookery programme run by the school.
We are also assisting the school in helping them to run a new project on Hairdressing Skills. I am also very passionate about our kids, especially as I am of Grenadian parentage and British born. I try to visit the school when I can to see the progress of our children. I also sponsor a pupil at the school to assist them to get to and from school. Every special needs child deserves a chance to learn new skills for when they get older and go into the big wide world, which in some cases will help them go further and live independently"
Patsy has been a committed member of the Sunshine Foundation for over 10 years, playing an active role in many of the charity's most successful activities.
She first discovered the foundation at a local event in Acton, London, and was immediately drawn to its work supporting special needs children in Grenville, Grenada. As a second-generation Grenadian with family roots in St Andrew and St John, her pride in her heritage made joining the charity a natural choice.
Serving on the committee has been a rewarding journey, and seeing the impact on the children and teachers makes every fundraising effort worthwhile. Alongside her committee role, Patsy brings valuable experience working with young people, having previously mentored disadvantaged teenagers and young offenders through job applications, interview prep, and work placements.
